Local Meth Facts

  • The number of meth treatment cases opened by HSA more than doubled from 2001 to 2005
  • Meth cases accounted for 42 percent of all new treatments in 2005, up from 17 percent in 2001
  • According to the county Sheriff’s Office, the amount of meth seized by the department almost doubled between 2004 and 2005
  • More than half of Sheriff’s Office arrests in 2005—365 out of 649—were meth-related
  • Local law enforcement reports that meth is replacing heroin as the most commonly used drug among the county’s gang population
